Our Shipping

We offer two levels of shipping, standard and special delivery. 

We only ship products Monday-Friday. Orders placed late on Friday will not be shipped until Monday following the weekend, to ensure animals are not stored in cold premises for long periods.

We use a number of shippers to obtain the best price we can that also guarantees delivery of your purchases on time and in good condition. All are reliable, all are major name companies. For US shipping we use Royal Mail Tracked (Which appears in the US as USPS) or UPS, depending on which service you select on checkout. Both are reliable. For Canadian and US orders please read relevent articles on Canadian Orders and US Orders.

For UK shipping we generally use Royal Mail, untracked. Although slower than it used to be the Royal mail rarely loses posted items and almost always delivers them in good condition. The cost is good for Royal mail except when you use their tracked services.

Generally we find that although the actual delivery date is unknown the quality and speed is perfectly good enough. Even with untracked shipments we always obtain proof of posting.

Tracked special delivery

We also offer special delivery, tracked  shipping. In our experience this is rarely needed but we strongly recommend tracked and special delivery for adult beetles when you want to be sure they reach you as quickly as possible. We ship our adults (and larvae) in protected containers with suffficient food for at least a week. In our experience they do not suffer from the travel but you might wish to get them quicker with a tracked service you can follow up - but beware this is usually quite a lot more expensive.

We do not recommend special delivery for our substrate which is heavy and is not affected by a long shipping time. Even for UK shipping 2kg or more can cost tens of pounds for postage and packing. 

Overall the choice is yours. We want you to be satisfied and you need to decide if you want the added reassurance of tracked special delivery.

Problems with special delivery

Special delivery is the fastest shipping service we offer but It doesn't always guarantee delivery within a time period as All postal services have a caveat on their terms and conditions which says something like "most of our parcels arrive within the timescale we quote, but this is not a guarantee". 

Anoter problem with special delivery is that many customers assume using special delivery puts them at the front of our order queue, but it doesn't. We process orders strictly in the time order we receive them, to do otherwise would be unfair. Usually this is not a problem but when we get large numbers of orders some special delivery orders don't get shipped for 2 days. Special delivery means that we will use a postal service special delivery method (with its own lack of guarantee).

One way around this is that if your order is particularly important then send us an email or add a comment to your order and we will do our best.

SNOW and HOT Spells

Many of our customers from colder climates find it strange that the UK grinds to a halt when it is cold, but it is true. One day of snow and everything everywhere backs up, post gets slower, schools closedown, motorways close...  If we see a prediction of snow or very low temperatures we usually hold delivery of orders for a few days until the weather warms. When this happens we try to email customers to let them know. The main reason we will delay sending out packages in these tempratures is there is a good possiblity the larvae/adult could die if shipped in very cold conditions (Below 5C, Also note that tempratures above 26C are dangerous for larvae) so please check your local weather forcast for the next week before placing an order.

Terms and Conditions

The following Terms and Conditions apply to the use of www.rhinobeetle co.uk. By accessing this website and/or placing an order, you are subject to the following Terms and Conditions. Use of www.rhinobeetle.co.uk is an acceptance in agreement of these Terms and Conditions.

Introduction

1.1: In acceptance of the Terms and Conditions you are permitted the use of all search facilities within www.rhinobeetle.co.uk and to access all products and information within the site.

1.2: We may revise these terms and conditions at any time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to review the then current terms and conditions, for any further updates and changes. Certain provisions of these terms and conditions may be superseded by legal notices or terms located on particular pages of this Website.

Ordering

2.1: When ordering online you are deemed to place the order through our secure online checkout process. As part of our checkout process you will be given the opportunity to check your order and to correct any errors. This information is also available to view by logging into your account online using your password and username created on registration.

2.2: Our acceptance of an order takes place when we despatch the order. Even if your payment has been processed immediately, we can choose to cancel the order and refund without compensation if no goods are available to send.

2.3: We may refuse to accept an order:
(a) where goods are out of stock or no longer available;
(b) where there is insufficient credit on your account to cover the order cost;
(c) if there has been a pricing or product description error; or
(d) if you do not meet any eligibility criteria set out in our terms and conditions.

Pricing

3.2: Although we endeavour to keep all prices and information within the Website up to date and accurate at all times, on occasion manufacturers and suppliers will make changes without prior warning, for which we reserve the right to make pricing alterations and changes to information displayed at short notice.

3.3: Prior to receipt of invoice and goods, if a pricing error occurs through the website or by quotation upon enquiry or point of ordering, we will endeavour to maintain the price for you, but in circumstances where this is not possible we reserve the right to inform you of this error, and if you wish to proceed, make the necessary amendments prior to processing your order.

Cancellation and Returns Policy

4.1: If you wish to cancel your order:
(a) you can notify us. See the Contact Us page for details; or
(b) where goods have already been dispatched to you, by returning goods to us in accordance with clause 4.2 below. The cost to safely and securely return any unwanted items lies solely with the purchaser.

4.2: Any goods for return must be notified to us in writing within 7 working days commencing from the day after receipt. Any non-faulty goods returned outside of the 7 day period without notice during the period we reserve the right to refuse.

4.3: The rights to return the goods to us as referred to in clause 4.2 will not apply in the event that;
a) the product has been used
b) the product packaging has been damaged (e.g. by the addition of price labels)
c) the product is not returned to us in the same condition as you received the product.
c) the product has been manufactured to individual requirements and/or on a special order basis.
d) the product has been sold/passed on to a third party.


Any goods that are damaged in transit on return to Rhinobeetle UK due to poor packaging or lack of care on your behalf will not be refunded and will be returned to sender. Please ensure all returns are packaged to the same level as when initially received. We require all original manufacturer /branded packaging to be enclosed. You are responsible for charges required to ship products back to us for refund.

4.4: Some of the items available from Rhinobeetle UK will be delivered requiring a signature upon receipt. Prior to signing for goods we ask that you check that the goods are both undamaged and that all goods are in the consignment that should be. Signing for the goods is an acceptance that everything in the delivery is as it should be and undamaged. If you inform us of damages or shortfalls after signing for a consignment it makes it extremely difficult to make a claim from the couriers and some couriers will not accept liability. Claims for damages and shortfalls will be processed within 48 hours.

4.5: In the event of an alleged defect with goods fitted and used but still under warranty, the purchaser must return the goods to us for inspection and assessment of the fault. If the defect is deemed a fault covered by warranty and still within the cover period, we will pursue the claim with the utmost importance. As outlined below, please contact us prior to making any returns so that we are aware of the return initially and also so we can begin to establish if the fault is one that is covered by the terms of the warranty and ensure that the product is still within the warranty period.

4.6: All live insects purchased from us are healthy and fit on shipping. We ship the animals well fed and well packaged and also provide sufficient food and substrate for longer than the expected shipping time. We only ship live animals by tracked postal services to minimise stress and duress on the animals and ensure they arrive in good condition.

4.7 It is your responsibility as purchaser to ensure that laws in your country of origin allow import of our products. If any permit or license of fee is due then as stated under international law you are responsible for obtaining any required document and paying necessary fees. Any delay caused by Customs or other official inspection process are not covered by our warranty or that of our shippers – this is a standard term for all international sellers.

The provisions of these clauses do not affect your statutory rights

Product Guarantees and Warranties

5.1: All product warranties and guarantees are provided solely by the product manufacturer. If you have a claim under warranty, the moment you contact us we will act on your behalf to pursue your warranty claim. On most occasions products deemed faulty under warranty will need to be returned to either ourselves or the manufacturer for further inspection, but this will be done in the quickest time possible and treated as a matter of urgency. If good quality images are available, we may be able to use these to come to a conclusion.

5.2: All warranty claims must prove proof of purchase and must be discussed with us before goods are returned. In the event that warranty claim is not deemed valid, we will not be liable for any costs incurred and we will not accept liability for any costs incurred throughout a claim for labour and/or other related charges. Warranty and Guarantee are voided in the event that products have been modified.

Licence

6.1: You are permitted to print and download extracts from this Website for your own “non-commercial” use on the following basis:
(a) no documents or related graphics on this Website are modified in any way;
(b) any of our copyright and trade mark notices on images or within text appear in all copies displayed.

6.2: Unless otherwise stated, the copyright and other intellectual property rights in all material on this Website (including without limitation photographs and graphical images) are owned by us or our licensors. For the purposes of these terms and conditions, any use of extracts from this Website other than in accordance with clause 5.1 above for any purpose is prohibited. On the rare occasion that goods are lost in transit, the goods will be replaced for an identical product. We will not issue a refund.

On goods fitted that are later found to be faulty, compensation is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of the manufacturer.

12.4: We are predominantly an EU supplier and as such part of the EU customs union, where there are no customs delays or charges. Clients purchasing our goods outside the EU take full responsibility for any delays caused by or charges levied by immigration or customs services.

What we do?

We are a breeder and worldwide supplier of a variety of species of Rhinoceros beetles, we also sell all of the nessacery equipment for succesfully keeping and breeding rhinoceros beetle larvae/adults. Our Beetles our have been sold to Hobbyists around the world as well as Universitys, Musems, Schools, Animal encounter companys,TV production companies and more.

 

We source all of our breeding stock from animal friendly sources. None of the beetles we sell are captured in the wild but are bred in captivity and you can be reassured a) that they are healthy and b) that the use of them isn't damaging the natural communities. We now breed a large amount of beetles/larvae ourselves but we still source some stock from the far east and are legally imported into the EU. The substrate we use is top quality as it is produced in the far east by the world record holder for the largest DHH bred in captivity (17cm+).

Pricing

We keep our overheads down, quality high and most importantly price affordable. We always ensure a high quality product and take the upmost care of our larvae/beetles. We always aim to offer the best possible value for money.

The company is based in North Kent and initially concentrates on the serving the UK, but being online means that the we are able regularly provide animals and their supplies across the globe.

International orders

Our shop tries to provide shipping options for all possible customers across the EU and in North America.

If you are an international user that isn't covered by the provided options then please contact us and we can work out how to meet your needs, either by a direct sale or by offering a special product shipment from the shop.

Please read our information on shipping options on the site and consider whether you need to use a more expensive but quicker service. 

Note that WE have no control over custom inspections and delays, nor are any customs charges paid within the price, you may be billed by your customs if there are any charges. It is your responsibility to check import regulations for your own country - We ship your order assuming you have done this.

As a member of the EU customs union there are no delays or custom charges for orders within the EU. In our experience there are relatively few delays or charges but orders outside the EU are shipped at your risk and to your responsibility for delays and customs charges.

Customs problems?

There's usually no reason to worry because:

  1. Rhinobeetle provides all the necessary paperwork for your shipment;
  2. In most countries it's pretty easy to import most kinds of harmless invertebrates. Both larvae and adult beetles we sell are completely harmless to animal and plant life. Rhinobeetles only eat rotting trees which are never a protected species!
  3. The actual process of customs clearance is usually handled completely by the delivery company (e.g. UPS, FedEx, DHL);
  4. If there is any duty (import tax) or other charges to pay, the courier will usually pay it first and deliver the products to you, and you pay the costs later.

If there is a question about your delivery:

  1. Sometimes you may need to provide information to your local Customs office about the shipment you are receiving. Sometimes they will need you to provide an invoice matching the invoice that accompanies the goods. In these cases, please contact us immediately and we will provide you with a PDF of the shipping invoice.
  2. Sometimes the products need to be backed up with some kind of licence or certificate. In these cases, we are generally notified by the courier and we will contact you. If Customs contacts you about this, please let us know first and we will help you with any information you need.

Customs Liability

  1. If goods cannot be delivered due to restrictions in your own country, this is solely your responsibility. For example, if the animals you buy are restricted due to local laws in the delivery destination country, that is your responsibility to know about before you order from us. If the delivery failed for that reason, we cannot offer any compensation, because as the importer it's your job to know about the local regulations. Another situation in which you must accept liability is where your country requires you to have a licence to import commercial goods: in this case, it is your responsibility to know about this before you place an order on Rhinobeetle and in the case of a failed delivery, we cannot offer any compensation.
  2. We have almost never had orders seized by customs, but they often delay good delivery. This is outside the control of both Rhinobeetle and the shipper. If your order is time dependent then we strongly recommend early ordering not relying on one day or two day delivery as Murphy’s law states this is when customs will delay your shipment!
  3. As the importer you hold sole legal responsibility for responding to questions about imported goods delivered to yourself. Import duties, sales tax, and any other customs charges and fees, are your sole responsibility, as described in our terms and conditions. If a delivery fails because you do not respond in time to Customs communications, or you refuse to pay the applicable charges, we cannot offer any compensation. This is not because we won't help, it is because we are not allowed to get involved.

Order status

The Rhinobeetle UK shop provides online order confirmation and includes shipping bill and invoices with your order.

By using your order number and password you can see your order details on our website (by following the link given with your confirmation email.

Updates to your order will produce further emails. At present we send emails on the following events: order confirmation by user; order confirmation by us; Order completed; Order shipped. We also sent an additional order for special delivery when this has been arranged.

We strongly encourage regular users to register with us. This is not a requirement, but provides much more details about your previous orders and lets you reorder special collections etc much easier.
